Rusty toy truck

I've been preoccupied with pushing pixels lately but I'm itching to paint so I set this up as a possible still life subject. It's a cast iron toy truck, once owned by my uncle. He was a body mechanic and had a great collection of toy cars. Visually, I like the splashes of rust but I'll be cleaning it off before I put it back on the shelf.

Snowed in

This is the view from my house in the east end of St. John’s. Bit of a mess. We’ve had our power back for a little while now at least we’re fed and coffeed.

I’m still obsessing with the birch tree. This time in Photoshop... holding up a mirror to nature and seeing what patterns emerge.

I was out for a walk with my better half this afternoon. I love that trail... lots of great spots where the light spills through the trees.

Photo reflections in Trinity, Newfoundland

I was attending a wedding this weekend in Trinity, Newfoundland. When I wasn’t busy snapping the festivities, I was shooting landscapes or, more precisely, the sky and its reflections. The third pic caught an abstract moment when the wake of a boat moved across the water.

Fog spill

I was at The Rooms today to check out the David Blackwood exhibit. It was a very extensive show: everything from one of his earliest paintings in 1958 up to his most recent aquatints. I brought my camera along -- not to shoot the show but to grab some shots of the harbour. The Rooms has a great view. While we were there the fog was just starting to spill into the harbour.

I stumbled across the lair of these alien creatures yesterday. I'm fairly certain they will take over my body if I fall asleep. Either that or they're fiddleheads. If that's the case, I'll probably eat them.

I thought it might be nice to add a few Sweden shots here. Art and design seems to be deeply ingrained in their culture. In Stockholm, it seems like you are never out of eyeshot of something beautiful to look at whether it's a street corner sculpture, an architectural detail or even a shop window that says a lot more that "buy me".  The Swedes seem to have embraced art as a part of their culture throughout the ages.

The above panoramic was actually about eight shots I took while on our boat tour (thank you photoshop). Stockholm is largely made up of islands and many of them, just beyond the city center, are inhabited even though they are too small to justify bridges. It seems, for some Swedes, traveling by boat is a part of everyday life.
